eSports is what we call organized, competitive gaming. eSports athletes compete in various video game titles in the same way that athletes compete in traditional sports. Some of the most popular games are Fortnite, Overwatch, League of Legends, and Rocket League.
Top eSport players train regularly under professional conditions. Despite numerous parallels to classic sports, eSport is unique, for example in the way they are practised or organised. Therefore, the question of whether eSport is a sport is not decisive.
Instead, the current discussion must focus on taking eSports seriously as a social phenomenon that can no longer be ignored, and on improving the general conditions for eSport players - both at the top and in the broadest sense - in the German-speaking countries.

If computer and video games can be played competitively against human players, they are generally suitable as eSport titles. Not every gamer engages in eSports when a game is played online or locally against other players. Gaming only becomes eSport when it is played in leagues or other competitions under regular conditions.

Whether young or old: everyone plays, either on a mobile phone, tablet, Nintendo Switch, X-Box, PlayStation, or PC. The average age of gamers is 21.8, so it's not just kids as the majority assumes. There are a variety of benefits to participating in video games, including cognitive development, social engagement, and motor skill development.

Other benefits include: improved brain function, greater creativity and problem solving, better positioning for STEM careers, more relaxation and less anxiety, and strengthened social skills.
